Throwing confetti - our best tips!

Throwing confetti - our best tips!

10/07, 2025

In this post, we have gathered our best tips to help you create a successful confetti moment on your big day! We, of course, base our advice on our own fantastic confetti, which is completely natural (made from starch and water) and biodegradable.

- Ask first

Not all churches and event venues allow confetti outdoors (not surprising, nobody wants paper and plastic left in nature, which is what confetti is usually made of—though not our confetti!). So always ask first! Recommend our confetti and feel free to refer to more information here at www.rockinmybox.com or one of our longer blog posts about the confetti. We’re happy to answer questions or help you brainstorm ideas on how to best use it on your wedding day or event. You can reach us via email at [email protected] or via DM on Instagram @rockinmybox.

- Appoint a confetti manager

Appoint someone to be responsible for the confetti, to hand it out to the guests, and to instruct them on when and how to throw it for the best effect. Our tip is to send them the link to this blog post so your confetti manager will immediately know everything!

- Cones for confetti

We highly recommend using confetti cones. There are several reasons for this. Firstly, you can prepare the confetti in a nice way so that it is easy to distribute when the time comes. Our biodegradable wooden confetti cones are not only a stylish detail but are also sized appropriately to provide a suitable amount of confetti in each cone. Calculate approximately 5-10 grams of confetti per guest. You can also make your own confetti cones out of paper to match the other details and colors of the wedding. A confetti cone, just like the confetti itself, also looks lovely in wedding photos—an extra little detail in the overall scheme. Another reason to use cones is that confetti easily reacts to moisture. If a guest has to hold it in a warm hand for too long, it can cause the confetti closest to the hand to start sticking.

- Throwing confetti

Our confetti is thrown by hand, meaning it is not a confetti cannon. We recommend throwing the confetti at the height of or a few meters in front of the bride and groom; aim high above the couple so that the confetti has time to do its job – floating down in that magically beautiful way. Avoid throwing at eye level! The confetti can also be used for group photos or to kick off the party – throw as high as you can. How the confetti moves, of course, depends on the weather and wind.

- To the bride and groom

Even though the confetti is light and soft, a natural reaction is to brush away anything that comes close to the face. Be prepared and enjoy a magical confetti moment, and your photos will turn out absolutely fantastic!

- Weather for confetti

The properties of confetti make it very light and it cascades through the air incredibly beautifully, as if each little confetti circle is doing its own tiny flips in the air. When throwing confetti, the weather should be dry, and of course, the wind decides which way the confetti moves and how fast. Feel free to do a test throw beforehand, and if you have an engagement shoot, a tip is to also throw some confetti then together with your photographer.
