Eco-friendly confetti for weddings and parties - biodegradable and water-soluble

5/05, 2025

Weddings are a day (or several) filled with love, joy, and festivities. A beloved tradition when it comes to celebrating and congratulating the bride and groom is to throw rice or confetti.

Throwing rice has been done for generations, but the small grains often make the bride and groom squint more than open their eyes. Rice also easily gets inside clothing or sticks in hair. The prickly little grains don't really have much visual effect either. Since 2022, it has been prohibited in Sweden to use plastic confetti outdoors, which is a good thing, right! But what alternatives are left?

Rock in my Box has developed an eco-friendly confetti as an alternative to both rice and traditional confetti. Made from natural ingredients, starch, and water (like a thin rice paper), the confetti is biodegradable. It quickly breaks down in nature or can be watered away.

Our confetti is very well suited for weddings and other celebrations. Thanks to its properties, it falls extra beautifully through the air, allowing the photographer to capture magical confetti shots of the bride and groom. The confetti feels almost slightly transparent in the hand, which allows it to blend nicely with surrounding colors and prevents the photos from looking speckled with confetti.

Always ask for permission before throwing confetti. On popular dates, there may be several ceremonies in the church back-to-back, making it potentially impossible to throw confetti on the couple right outside. However, there are plenty of opportunities to create magical moments with confetti:

  • At an outdoor wedding, it is nice to throw confetti when the bride and groom leave the ceremony site and the guests are already positioned along the aisle.
  • Welcome the bride and groom to the reception venue with a lovely confetti shower.
  • Take photos together with family and/or the bridal party as they throw confetti on the bride and groom.

Churches, restaurants, and event venues may have restrictions on confetti because it is not environmentally friendly and takes too long to clean up. Feel free to inform them about our confetti, the alternative that solves both problems.

How much confetti is needed? Only a small amount of confetti is needed, calculate about 5-10 grams per guest. The confetti is sold in 200 gram bags, which means each bag is enough for about 25 guests.

We wish you a fantastic wedding day with many wonderful confetti moments! Feel free to tag us in your confetti photos @rockinmybox
